Cirrus Logic's newest multichannel surround sound codecs are the CS424XX family of products, which are the most integrated multichannel codec currently on the market with up to 6 A/Ds and 8 D/As.
The CS424XX family can be divided into two groups. The difference between those two groups is that the CS42432/35/36/ and 38 supports TDM interface only, whereas the CS42448 and 888 support TDM but also PCM serial interface such as I2S left justified and right justified.
Within each group the devices differentiate by the number of input channels ranging from 4 to 6 and output channels ranging from 6 to 8.
These products are ideally targeted for the automotive market, such as digital amplifiers and navigation systems; as well as pro-audio applications like effects processors and audio interfaces and consumer applications such as DVD receivers and AV receivers.
For flexibility of design, each device can be operated with differential or single ended inputs and outputs. With this broad family of products, Cirrus Logic's solutions hold up against competitive products. The CS424XX is the only codec family that offers up to 6 A/Ds. With this higher integration, Cirrus has the need for eliminated external devices and simplified systems design.
This family also wins with excellent THD+N, dynamic range performance and competitive pricing. In addition, the pin-to-pin compatibility within each group provides an easy upgrade to higher channel counts.
